NATIONAL ARTS & HEALTHCARE NONPROFIT O+ FESTIVAL
Formative branding and lead writing for a successful national nonprofit organization
After leaving my "permalance" work at Condé Nast magazines Vanity Fair and W following the economic crash of 2008, I moved from Brooklyn to the upstate city of Kingston, New York where I worked with my new neighbors to co-found what is now a national arts and healthcare nonprofit called O+ Festival.
I defined the editorial voice, wrote the mission statement and all communications, PR, promotional and web content (including some graphic design and photography), managed community outreach, and more, serving as Communications Director through 2014, at which point I transitioned to the Board of Directors, and now, the advisory board. THE ART OF MEDICINE FOR THE
MEDICINE OF ART
Founded in Kingston, New York, chapters of O+ (“O Positive,” like the blood type) across America host weekend-long annual art and music festivals where artists and musicians exhibit their talents in exchange for access to medical, vision, dental, and alternative care from art-loving, volunteer doctors and other wellness professionals at the O+ Pop-Up Clinic.
O+ renews and strengthens communities by unifying local artists and musicians, health professionals, property owners, business owners and neighbors under a common goal, and strives to develop a model for all communities in which perpetual access to affordable and reliable wellness services for the working creative community can become a reality.
Since our launch in 2010, O+ has caught on from Poughkeepsie to Chicago to Petaluma, California. If you’re interested in hosting a chapter of O+ Festival in your own community, contact O+ acting executive director and artist Joe Concra at joe@opositivefestival.org.
